PRIORITY OBJECTIVES:
To improve and standardize their management processes, with particular focus on active supervision tools and measures. This improvement would result in:
PVA’S RESPONSE:
The approach developed was based on empowering the local management team in each Yard. All project activity was managed through the local Area Manager who reported to senior Management on a weekly and monthly basis. Within the Yard itself, a bottom-up approach was taken that had the Front Line Manager involving their own employees in the identification and resolution of variances. Concurrently, the elements of their management system were being implemented in both Mechanical Services and Field Operations. Throughout the Project, the Front Line Managers received both classroom training and 'in the field' coaching to improve their levels of active supervision and problem resolution skills.
PROJECT RESULTS:

PERPETUATION OF RESULTS:
All six projects are currently operating in their audit phase. They have some of their own employees trained as Continuous Improvement Coordinators to coach, support and maintain their system compliance. PVA is also conducting audits in order to ensure management system compliance and a successful implementation of their Continuous Improvement Program.

- ability to handle increased traffic volumes
PVA’S RESPONSE:
The approach developed was based on empowering the local management team in each Yard. All project activity was managed through the local Area Manager who reported to senior Management on a weekly and monthly basis. Within the Yard itself, a bottom-up approach was taken that had the Front Line Manager involving their own employees in the identification and resolution of variances. - a 200%+ increase (from between 4% and 8% to greater than 25%) in their overall active supervision levels
- an 11% improvement in the amount of idle time in Train Servicing
- a 76%improvement in the % effectiveness in Locomotive Servicing
- a 25% improvement in the total amount of dwell time for cars in the yard
